The Pivotal Moment
This project explores the different moments experienced by members of the Muslim community that drew them closer to their faith. Presented as a photography exhibit, 'The Pivotal Moment' highlights how different our experiences with faith can be and that faith is a non-linear journey.
Limees Rezig
Limees's pivotal moment was when her brother passed away, and her journey in Islam began as she visited his grave for contemplation and reflection. His passing was a wake-up call for her, making her realize the importance of not living just for this world but for the hereafter. Losing her brother brought her family into a state of contemplation about their lives and made them look at the world in a completely different way. Limees spent a lot of time visiting her brother's grave, which she found to be the most peaceful place where she could sit surrounded by nature and reflect on the hereafter.
"Everything that used to bother me lost its value to me, And my heart was so connected to Allah and the deen on a level that I never really imagined that it ever would be. And I was in such a state of clarity and my fears, I didn't have any doubts in the hereafter. I was in a place of such surety."
Faris Adam
Faris's journey to getting closer to Allah began with a realization one Ramadan. As he grew older, Faris started to feel the weight of responsibility and the fleeting nature of life. He knew he needed to get closer to Allah before his time would pass. He realized he could not build his iman without his salah and without going to the masjid and that his lifestyle was incomplete. Faris had to make sacrifices and let go of things that he thought were important in his life. They were decisions that he had to make for himself, and it wasn't easy. But he knew that Allah was the one who provides and takes care, and this was the only route he could take.
"I have faith in Allah that if I don't get it done then it wasn't meant for me, so l'm not really too stressed on things. If I need something. I have faith in Allah with that and if I don't get it done then it wasn't meant for me. But at the end of the day Allah provides. That's figured out"
